Volkswagen Warranty

Volkswagen Van Centre Warranty

The Volkswagen range of commercial vehicles are widely acknowledged to be among the best that money can buy.

They have the legendary qualities of reliability and solid durability that you would expect from Volkswagen. Now we’re increasingly becoming known for economy, service, support and expertise.

The confidence in our range is matched by a three year whole vehicle warranty comprising of two years unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty plus one year Van Centre Warranty.

The Van Centre Warranty extends the manufacturer’s warranty for a third year up to a maximum of 100,000 miles overall. For example, if a vehicle covers 60,000 miles in the first two years, the third year Van Centre Warranty will provide cover for a further 40,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. If a vehicle completes more than 100,000 miles in the first two years it will benefit from the manufacturer’s warranty for the first two years but the third year Van Centre Warranty will not apply. This warranty applies to every Volkswagen commercial vehicle, from the stylish Volkswagen Caddy, to the uncompromising Volkswagen Crafter, our versatile Volkswagen Transporter, Volkswagen Caravelle people carriers and the Volkswagen alifornia camper van. It applies to the base vehicle only and not to any special fittings, conversions or additional bodywork supplied by a third party

What is covered

The warranty covers the replacement or repair of defective parts according to technical requirements as determined by the manufacturer. Items such as defective parts taken from a vehicle and subsequently replaced under warranty become the property of the manufacturer.

You will not be charged the labour costs of removing and installing parts for warranty repairs, but you may be charged for extra work needed due to modifications to the vehicle, such as fitting a towing hitch after manufacture.

Areas covered by your warranty include:

  • Van Centre fitted Volkswagen accessories, radios and alarms which carry a 24 month warranty from the date of purchase
  • Volkswagen Parts carry a warranty for a minimum period of 24 months, with no mileage limitation, from the date of purchase. Parts replaced within the warranty period are covered for the balance of the warranty period. After this period, replacements parts carry the 24 month warranty referred to above. Other items with warranties in excess of 24 months will be advised to you at the time of purchase. This does not apply to parts fitted under the terms of the vehicle warranty, which are warranted for the remaining period of that warranty.
  • Currently all Crafters, Transporters, Caddys, Caravelles and Californias are fully protected during manufacture against rust attacking the internal cavities for 12 years. In the unlikely event of a manufacturing defect occurring within the specified warranty period, a Volkswagen Van Centre will carry out the necessary rectification free of charge.
  • All Volkswagen commercial vehicles are provided with a three year warranty against any manufacturing defects with the paintwork from the date of registration. This covers all of the Crafter, Transporter, Caddy, Caravelle and California models.

What is not covered

The warranty does not cover damage or defects due to:

  • Repairs by a workshop not authorised by Volkswagen
  • Installation of parts not approved by Volkswagen
  • Failure by the customer to comply with the operating instructions in the Owner’s Instruction Manual, Service Schedule Book or any other literature supplied by the manufacturer or a Van Centre from time to time
  • Normal wear and tear as well as damage caused by improper handling or misuse
  • Damage not due to defects in manufacture or materials
  • Fair wear and tear on items such as brake and clutch linings, wiper blades, spark plugs, bulbs and fuses, brake discs, shock absorbers, carpets and seat covers
  • Wheel balancing and wheel alignment, the frequency of which depends largely on driving techniques such as rapid starts and stops, tyre skidding, hitting potholes and kerbs and normal wear
  • Mechanical adjustment to items such as ignition, brakes, clutch and door locks
  • Windscreen and window glass breakage after the expiry of one month from the vehicle’s date of purchase, or after it has been driven or used over a distance of 600 miles, whichever occurs first
  • Damage caused by industrial pollution cannot be covered and neither can damage to paintwork or chrome caused by climatic, thermal, chemical or mechanical influences. Your vehicle’s Instruction Manual gives information on how to minimise such damage
  • Parts of the vehicle which have reached the end of their expected service life
  • Other matters not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and charges incidental to breakdowns such as towing fees, hotel charges, damage and loss of personal effects and clothing, loss of income, hire of alternative transport or other consequential losses

Certain of these items may be covered by Volkswagen Roadside Assistance.

Protecting your rights

The purpose of the warranty is to allow you to have faults in manufacture or materials rectified free of charge.

The Volkswagen Van Centre gives a warranty on each new vehicle sold by them. Every authorised Van Centre has the same terms of warranty as defined by Volkswagen Group United Kingdom Limited. The purpose of the warranty is to allow you, the customer, to have faults in manufacture or materials rectified free of charge within the applicable warranty periods.

This warranty does not seek to affect adversely the purchaser’s rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended).

Any unexpired portions of the warranty periods are always transferred automatically to any subsequent purchaser of the vehicle.

Should a defect in manufacture or workmanship occur on your Volkswagen, despite careful treatment and maintenance as specified in the Service Schedule Book and Owner’s Instruction Manual, any authorised Volkswagen Van Centre in the United Kingdom will rectify such defects without charge during the warranty period, even if you did not purchase the vehicle from that authorised Van Centre.

Claims for the repair of defects can be made only at workshops authorised to service your Volkswagen and must be made as soon as the defect becomes apparent.
